Which is best – a real or artificial Christmas tree?

Real Christmas trees are lovely, but there is no denying that they can be a bit annoying. Having to drag a real 7ft tree into your living room and then having to clean it up for weeks after Christmas is over isn’t always the best option to consider, especially for busy families and couples. This is all before thinking about the inconvenience it can cause to cat owners!

Artificial Christmas trees are becoming more the popular option in recent years, with this type of tree providing a range of advantages over a real one, such as:

  • It will last for years, so saves you money long term. If you keep hold of it for many years, it’s also more eco-friendly.
  • Less cleaning up needs to be done
  • Less mess to deal with, especially if you’re a cat owner.
  • Available in many sizes, styles and colours to suit all needs.

That’s it, I’m going with a faux Christmas tree. What should I be looking for in an artificial Christmas tree?

  • A good size for your living room – the most common size buyers go for is a 7ft tree
  • The price – depending on the size or style of the Christmas tree, the price will vary from anything as little as £30 all the way to £100s or £1,000s! Like the majority of things, the more you spend, the better the quality and therefore the better the look.
  • Some extra advice – we advise looking at trees with a high tip count. This refers to the number of needles, the higher the count, the fuller the tree will look. If you can afford it, PE tips are preferred over PVE as they are moulded to look more like real needles.

Where should I buy my Christmas tree from?

The options are endless! Some of the most popular retailers for artificial Christmas trees include: John Lewis, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Argos, Homebase, Hayes Garden World and Very.

If you can’t resist the real pine smell, a quick search on Google or reading your local newspaper should indicate where about you can pick up a real Christmas tree.

What about the decorations?

Again, there are so many shops both on the high street and online that will be selling a range of beautiful ornaments to decorate your choice of Christmas tree. A quick Google search will provide a range of options to suit your needs. Should you opt to go a bit more festive, why not visit one of the many Christmas markets on offer throughout the UK and find some fun, quirky and unique decorations!

Is Christmas time a good or bad time to consider buying or selling property?

It’s true, the property market is generally a bit slower around the Christmas period, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get the ball rolling and begin your property transaction before Christmas.

Property websites tend to have a lot of traffic over the Christmas period as more people start to have more time off, with the property market starting to become more technological, making it easier for potential homeowners to view thousands of property listings online.

Buying gifts, finding festive cooking instructions and other Christmassy activities can all just as easily be done with a few looks and clicks of your iPhone, so there is no reason to think buyers or sellers aren’t browsing during this time!

Even if you don’t fancy listing your property or shopping for a new home over Christmas, you shouldn’t forget that January is always one of the busiest times of the year for the property market, as many buyers and sellers look to fulfil their New Year’s Resolutions and snag their dream home.

Any type of property transaction can be both time consuming and complex. As this is the case, it is always best to seek the advice of an experienced property solicitor sooner rather than later, should you look to take advantage of what we expect to be a busy property market heading into 2025.
