This Is The Best Place To Live In the UK

Published: 18/09/2018

So where exactly is the best place to live in the UK?

Last time we reported on this VPRI (very pressing property issue!), Bristol was all the talk.

The city, located close to Bath and not far from London via fast trains, was praised by The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide as “a small city that feels like a big city” with great nearby “seaside and scenery, but hardly cut off from the rest of the country. There are jobs – lots of them glamorous, creative, hi-tech and professional – the food and drink are great, and it crams in all the culture you could wish for.”

It seems, however, that Bristol has taken backseat to another UK city this year.

Now, there is another just as buzzing location ready to shine.

Introducing… York!

Reasons Why York Is A Great Place To Live

The Guide loved that York has the "perfect mix of heritage and hi-tech", describing the city as a "mini-metropolis with cool cafes, destination restaurants, innovative companies - plus the fastest internet in Britain".

Other great things about York include its variety of good jobs, schools, local shops and yep, the broadband speed.

As for affordability, the average price of a property in York is just above £300,000. While house prices have risen 6.3% in a year, they are still significantly cheaper than the capital, where an average home will cost you about double that price.

The cost of living is also more affordable.

Other Yorkshire attractions include The Shambles, a picturesque cobbled lane dating from the Middle Ages, as well as its globally-impressive 800-year-old minster. A great racecourse, railway museum and the nearby North Yorkshire Moors are also desirable destinations for locals and tourists alike.

That’s not to mention the warming community spirit, which is particularly beneficial for those wanting to buy their first family home. For more information on how GWlegal can help first-time home buyers with our specialised ‘First Moments’ service, head here for more info.
