No ‘grape’ escape for Asda in recent Personal Injury case
Published: 10/06/2011
A Peterborough man has successfully sued the supermarket giant, Asda, after he slipped on a grape in the store’s Riverside branch.
The British supermarket chain, a subsidiary of the American company Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, was ordered to pay Thomas Wardle £10,500 in damages and £18,000 in legal costs¹ after the store’s cleaning procedures came under scrutiny.
Commenting on the case, a spokesperson for the superstore confirmed they have a thorough cleaning process in place but admitted, on this occasion, they failed to meet their own ‘high standards’.
They continued by denying the store had any issues with cleanliness despite at least two further cases involving the same store expected to be brought to court in the summer.
