GWlegal’s ultimate mission is to provide a fully rounded legal proposition for clients, who will return to GW again and again.
How did we get here? Read on for more about our history…
1984: GWlegal began as Goldsmith Williams Solicitors in July 1984, when it was founded by Edward Goldsmith and Christopher Williams.
Domestic conveyancing was the focus at the firm’s two offices – Eddie’s at Allerton Road in Liverpool, and Prenton on the Wirral where Chris was based.
1986: Then, in September, when senior partner Simon Cottrell joined the firm, a department for personal injury was established.
1989: Growing too big, GW moved to a larger city centre location.
1996: The Wirral office was closed and teams were combined.
2002: The firm acquired Mersey Chambers, the former prestigious headquarters of Harrison Line Shipping Group. After a 16 month-renovation project, this Grade II listed building was ready and GW staff moved in.
2006: Innovative online case management tool, GWlive, is launched. The first of its kind in the industry, the GWlive portal enables introducers to open cases and follow their progress, instantly and in real-time, 24-7.
2007: GW wins its first award, Business Leader of the Year – Conveyancing, The British Mortgage Awards. Dozens more to follow.
2008: GW Lifetime, a specialist equity release product promising to provide a 20-day turnaround on all cases, is launched by Richard Espley.
2009: GW is recognised as a ‘Top Legal Performer’ in the Corporate Social Responsibility and Innovation categories by crf.com
2014: GW celebrated 30 years in conveyancing, remortgaging, equity release, personal injury, wills & estate planning and financial claims!
2017: Rebranding to GWlegal to reflect its increasingly modern legal offering, the firm moved into a brand new custom-designed office space in the heart of the Liverpool business district, 20 Chapel Street.
2017 and beyond: GW strives to continually investigate new areas of work to fulfil its mission of being one of the country’s top law firms.
