Slater & Gordon (S&G), the world’s first listed legal practice, has confirmed its entrance into the UK market by buying law firm Russell Jones and Walker (RJW’s) for £53.8m, subject to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) granting an Alternative Business Structure licence.

The acquisition includes RJW’s Claims Direct brand.

Current RJW Chief Executive, Neil Kinsella, will now become the Chief Executive of S&G’s UK business. He said:

“Slater & Gordon is the ideal partner for us. We share similar histories and business ethos and we have spent the past 12 months, while negotiations have been underway, collaboratively developing a strategy to make the most of the changes taking place in the UK from a legal regulatory and legal services market perspective.

“We have jointly identified the opportunities that will come as a result of the changes in the UK market and have already benefited from sharing our knowledge. The potential to share technology and have greater resources to retain and attract additional talented people will underpin our future success.”

As Kinsella rightly highlights, finding the right ABS partner is essential for any business looking to capitalise on the changes to the provision of legal services.

There are many reasons for selecting and working with Goldsmith Williams in an Alternative Business Structure, from our vast experience of regulatory and compliance culture spanning over 27 years, to our capacity and capability to deliver a wide range of legal services, our use of modern business practices, to our position as a national leading provider of legal services.
