Let’s hear it for the girls: Latest ABS names all female board

Published: 11/02/2013

After being granted its alternative business structure licence, Hilary Meredith Solicitors has lived up to its feminine name and announced a women-only board.

Responding to criticisms surrounding heavy male-dominated boards, the Wilmslow based firm has begun its life as an ABS with Hilary Meredith, Stevie Tatton and Clare Stevens as Chief Executive, Managing Director and Director respectively.

“Our board is totally different,” comments Meredith. She is however quick to point out the practice has a number of senior, high-calibre male lawyers adding “all our appointments are based on merit.”

Speaking on the ABS licence alone, Meredith said:

Alternative business structure status is a natural progression for the business.

“We are a niche firm dealing in high-value complex cases.

“We don't rule out approaches by insurers to potentially white label us as their specialist department for claimant cases and we have already had some interest.

“Our ABS licence certainly gives us options heading into the future.”
