Father's Day Gift Ideas 2018

Published: 12/06/2018

Oh, dad! The notoriously difficult member of the family to buy gifts for (after years of birthdays and Christmases have seen him acquire enough tools, novelty t-shirts, pair of socks and hardwear store gift vouchers to last a lifetime). Luckily, the GW team is here to help! We asked some of our property team members for their favourite sightseeing trips to take dad to. Here are some of the UK’s most interesting properties, for a proper good British day out.

If you’re stuck for Father’s Day gift idea, then read on…

Teresa, Business Development Manager, English heritage enthusiast

Teresa is our quintessential English ‘mother hen’ type here in the GW offices. She loves all things British, so is well placed to advise on locations for a dad who loves English history and a little bit of medieval or Victorian charm. Some of her top picks for a fabulous day out include:

  1. Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire:

This historic location is awe-inspiring and with a fascinating history to boot. Always great for families and with a great visitor centre.

  2. 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield, Eat Sussex:

A truly magical spot for history buffs and families looking for a pleasant day-out alike. There are atmospheric ruins and you can even visit the exact place King Harold is said to have fallen in 1066. Dad will love it!

  3. Tintagel Castle, Cornwall:

The stunning coastline of Cornwall is enough in itself. This Arthurian castle is just icing on the cake.

Lynne, Head of Property, lover of the great outdoors

Our overseer of all things conveyancing and property, Lynne loves being outside. This is no surprise given she has a large family of dogs, who prefer the great outdoors! If dad is a keen gardener or simply likes a trip filled with nature, Lynne’s top spots will definitely keep him happy this Father’s Day…

  1. Arley Hall and Gardens, Cheshire:

This vibrant garden has been cultivated for over 250 years by the same family. It is a truly breathtaking sight and, of course, the smell is incredible!

  2. Minterne House, Dorset:

Lakes, waterfalls, streams and rare trees are just some of the delights at this historic house and 18th-century landscaped garden. You can also take part in themes trails, such as Murder Mystery.

  3. Bodnant Garden, Conwy: If you fancy a trip to Wales, this location is really something special. It has spectacular views across Snowdonia and a unique botanic collection that is world-famous.

Emma, Head of Sales, London local

Our Liverpool girl Emma has now made London her home. She works there remotely from the East end. We thought it only fitting then, to ask her to recommend some top trips out for a city-loving dad.

  1. The London Eye:

It’s a cliche no doubt, but the views from the Eye are simply breathtaking and worth every penny.

  2. Hampton Court Palace:

On the outskirts of London is this absolutely stunning historic building, complete with fabulous gardens, sights to woo history buffs such as a Tudor indoor tennis courts and even a fun maze garden.

  3. Highgate cemetery:

A hidden London gem. It even has trade-ll listed catacombs. Something a little different for day’s special day out.

Gavin, Business Development Manager, man of the pub

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t ask a lad himself what dad would prefer this Father’s Day. Our BDM Gav’s answer - why a trip to the pub, of course! For a really special drinking session, Gavin recommends:

  1. The Ginger Pig, Hove:

A pleasant seaside location with a classic English menu and great lagers and ales.

  2. The New Inn, Isle of Wight:

A traditional pub that ticks all the boxes and the best fish and chips in town.

  3. The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool:

Our own local gem has some of the most fascinating history. It is haunted with four ghosts and has a tunnel leading from the cellar to the city’s old red light district. So cool!
