£20,000 compensation for accident at work victim
Published: 13/07/2011
The British car manufacturer, Ford, have awarded a worker £20,000 in compensation following an accident at the Dagenham car plant.
Barry Lester, 64, suffered a serious groin strain after attempting to lift a box of car parts.
A year later, Mr Lester suffered another accident at work. The machine worker fell through a rotten floorboard in the staff toilet. This exacerbated his original injury and forced him to take further time off work (he had previously taken three weeks off for the first workplace accident).
After the second accident, Mr Lester made a claim for compensation, alleging he could no longer work overtime and indulge in his favourite hobbies, gardening and playing golf.
Ford admitted liability and upheld his claim. They agreed compensation of £20,000 and settled out of court.
